Research interests
My research interests primarily focus on the impact that viral infection has on the human body at the molecular and cellular level. My undergraduate dissertation explored the effect of HPV16, on the transcriptome of cervical cells, exploring the up-and-down regulation of epigenetic factors and immune molecules.
Broadly, I am interested in viral transcriptomics, and viral oncology, with a focus on the use of virally-altered molecules as biomarkers.
Why I chose MRes Advanced Biological Science
I chose an MRes in Advanced Biological Science when I was given the opportunity to work with SARS-CoV-2 and explore the impact that the virus has on the interactome of host cells. If key molecular targets of the virus can be identified, then our understanding of the disease will improve, and we may be able to focus on these target molecules as the search for antiviral therapies continues.
Aims for the future
Following graduation, I am looking to pursue a PhD within the scope of my research interests, as I continue to purse a career in virological research.
