Portrait of Paul Little

A Faculty of Medicine academic has been given a prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding research in general practice.

Paul Little, Professor of Primary Care Research at the University, has been given the聽Royal College of General Practitioners' (RCGP) 黑料社y Prize.

Professor Little鈥檚 research, and its translation into policy and practice, has been at the forefront of primary care research in the UK and internationally.

His focus has been avoiding the harms of overtreatment of common self-limiting conditions such as sore throat, earache and painful eyes as well as finding new ways of reducing antibiotic prescribing rates.

Professor Little said: 鈥淚 am truly honoured to be awarded the 黑料社y Prize by the RCGP as it reflects the appreciation in primary care of the importance of the聽work we have done not only on antimicrobial stewardship but also聽the development聽of pragmatic complex interventions to support behaviour change.鈥

He added: 鈥淚t is also is a great tribute to the great collaborative team of researchers here in Southampton, to the national and international researchers who have collaborated in this work, and to my friends and particularly to my family who have supported me and put up with me all these years.鈥
