We are delighted to welcome Samantha Ege and Nicole Panizza to perform Samantha Ege’s performance-research project Black Renaissance Woman .

Black Renaissance Woman: Lives, Legacies and Music is an album of piano solo and two-piano works by four female composer-pianists of the Black Chicago Renaissance. Black Renaissance Woman presents their music beyond the shadow of European, Anglo-American, and androcentric historiographies, situating their works in the compositional and performance practices of a notably female-driven Black Renaissance school. The album comprises three world-premiere recordings out of the five featured works. Performed by Samantha Ege and Oxford-based pianist Nicole Panizza, Black Renaissance Woman encapsulates Ege’s entwined research and repertoire in the areas of Black concert traditions and women’s music-making in the United States.
