The funding history of NAMRIP
NAMRIP has been funded by various agencies since it was founded in 2015.
NAMRIP was founded in 2015, and for 2 years (2016-2018) was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
NAMRIP’s achievements in those 2 years in funding research, starting new grants and spin-out companies, and in public and policymaker engagement, can be found in this brochure . At the end of 2 years, funding from UKRI stopped. After that, the primary funder has been . The ºÚÁÏÉç (UoS) supplied £10k per year for 2 years, then stopped. Two grants from the Grand Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) of around £50k each were used to fund workshops in Ghana (2018) and Uganda (2019). However the GCRF, which was launched as the UK’s new research council in , was so dramatically in 2020-2021 that further funding for Global-NAMRIP was not possible.
NAMRIP continued to fund activities using as the sole generic activity funder, and research grant wins to support specific projects, with some success (as indicated from our News pages ).
The very welcome advent of multiple millions of pounds of funding for new AMR networks in the UK is very welcome, but spells the end for NAMRIP, as it cannot compete in terms of activities or the services it can offer to members, with what these new taxpayer-funded networks can provide.
