Research
Current research
Dr Poore's research focuses on how the environment both before we are born and in our early years can influence our life-long health - the field of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). She has a particular interest in the effect of early life nutrition and exposure to environmental toxicants and climate change on the later risk of non-communicable diseases. As a fetal physiologist Dr Poore's work contributes to our understanding of the mechanisms involved in DOHaD. She has disseminated her research findings at national and international level and has influenced international policy through an advisory role at the World Health Organisation.

Biography
Originating in Australia, Dr Poore completed her PhD in fetal physiology at Monash University in Melbourne, before moving to the UK and spending several years as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge. Dr Poore was appointed Lecturer in Physiology in 2007, after first moving to Southampton in 2001 to join an active research team. With increasing involvement in medical education in recent years, Dr Poore is currently a Principal Teaching Fellow with senior education leadership roles in the Faculty.
